Baldwin Wallace names Duxbury head coach
Genevieve Duxbury helped push girls’ wrestling to sanctioned status in Ohio. Now she will lead a college program in the state.
Duxbury has been named the head coach of the Baldwin Wallace University women’s wrestling program, Director of Athletics and Recreation Steve Thompson announced. She is the second head coach in program history.
Thompson said Duxbury’s work in the state made her a strong fit for the Yellow Jackets.
“She has been deeply involved in the growth of girls’ and women’s wrestling in Ohio, and she brings tremendous energy, credibility and lifelong passion for developing young women through the sport,” said Thompson. “I believe Genevieve understands both where women’s wrestling is today and the incredible opportunity ahead of us at BW. We are excited about the future of the program under her leadership.”
Duxbury arrives from Orange High School, where she has been the head girls wrestling coach and an assistant boys wrestling coach since 2024. She was named the Chagrin Valley Conference Girls Coach of the Year in 2026.
Before Orange, Duxbury spent four seasons as the head girls wrestling coach at Lutheran West High School, from 2019 to 2023. She coached wrestlers at the first Ohio High School Athletic Association-sanctioned girls state tournament and was named the Greater Cleveland Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Girls Coach of the Year in 2023.
Duxbury also has college coaching experience in Northeast Ohio. She was a volunteer assistant coach for the John Carroll University women’s wrestling program in 2023, helping run practices and handling administrative duties.
Her work in the sport extends well beyond her own teams. Duxbury worked with coaches from across the state and the Wrestle Like a Girl organization to educate coaches, athletes and administrators on the benefits of sanctioning girls’ wrestling. The OHSAA sanctioned the sport for the 2022-23 school year.
Duxbury also coaches with the Ohio National Team, traveling with the state’s athletes to the national championships in Fargo, North Dakota, and with the Ohio Greco Boyz & Girlz Club. She holds a USA Wrestling Silver Certification.
Duxbury earned a bachelor’s degree in business in accountancy from Miami (Ohio) University in May 2026.
Duxbury said the job is about more than staying in the region where she has built her coaching career.
“I’m excited to be part of a legacy of college wrestling in Northeast Ohio, but more than that, I’m thrilled to help young women grow in the sport that I love,” said Duxbury.
